How Lawsworth dismantled a serious prosecution and held the authorities accountable
We recently acted for a client who engaged our firm after being charged with multiple serious offences, including allegations of rape and sexual offending.
Following extensive preparation, detailed analysis of the brief, and sustained engagement with Victoria Police and the Office of Public Prosecutions Victoria, Senior Associate Ayla Dodson and the team at Lawsworth were able to secure a complete withdrawal of all charges prior to committal.
Importantly, the Court also made a costs order against Victoria Police, requiring payment of $30,000.00 to our client in legal fees.
This outcome reflects not only the ultimate abandonment of a prosecution that should not have proceeded, but also recognition of the significant financial burden placed on an accused person when required to defend allegations of this nature.
